How will the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare affect treatment for my pain and injury?

Can I still receive high quality healthcare?

Yes, if you stay smart about it, but some changes are still coming.  Premiums and co-pays will probably continue to increase.  I have seen many patients, who already have health insurance,, complain that their health insurance premiums have increased > $100/month and their deductible is $5000 now.   What is this?? If you have to pay for the whole treatment anyway, ask yourself, is there a way to receive the same care for a cheaper amount??  Better yet, is there a place that can get me better in fewer visits that 3x a week for 4 weeks?  Click here for a previous blog to see the financial differences and how many weeks it will take to get better between standard treatment vs cash based treatment!

Why pay $3000 when your deductible is not met, for standard treatment when you can get the same outcome in fewer visits at Pursuit Physical Therapy for $1500!

Yes millions of uninsured people will now have health insurance, but watch out to make sure that health insurance through the market place will allow you to see your physician of choice, a specialist, and not force you to see to local "doc in a box" clinic.

Here is a great example of a young part time college student who makes roughly $10,000/year and the problems he went through getting health insurance through the market place.  Pretty interesting and maybe he may be better of going as a self pay patient for minor non-life threatening injuries.  Can you still save money this way??

I recently have heard of a great analogy regarding health care from another PT colleague, Aaron LeBauer:

"people are realizing their health insurance is for catastrophes, more like their car insurance (no coverage for an oil change, flat/punctured tire, or failed water pump) they are starting to shop around to find the best value treatment and therapist."

Where can I find the best care for the best value?
