Do you have a high deductible?
Do you have a flexible spending and health savings account set up for health care services?
Regardless of what exactly happens in the future with medicine, patients are going to be more responsible for the cost of their healthcare. Many companies and individuals are opting to set aside money in flexible spending (FSA) and health savings accounts (HSA) for health care services. The Direct Primary Care Journal recently just wrote a blog about how the Affordable Care Act will affect those with FSA and HSA. It appears these 2 options are going to be here to stay and may be an essential part of you receiving the healthcare you deserve. This will emphasize cost effectiveness of your care? Prospective patients seeking healthcare services can start asking themselves:
Where can I go to get the best care for my pain and injury?
How much will it cost me?
Can someone else get me better in fewer visits at a cheaper cost?
For example, a recent patient severely sprained her ankle and wanted to know if she fractured her ankle or not during a consultation. Given the severity of her injury, and not having health insurance, she had to pay out of pocket for her x-ray. She went to one center, and they wanted to charge $350 for the doctor visit and x-ray. Then she went to another location, and they offered the doctor visit and x-ray for $150. She choose the later.
If you had heel pain (plantar fasciitis) and her seeking care for your pain using your FSA or HSA, or even paying cash because your deductible is $5000, you need to ask yourself the above questions. One location charges you as an standard insurance based clinic $200-300 per visit for 12 visits (3x a week for 4 weeks) costing you a total of $2400-3600. Another cash based clinic will treat you for $1500 for the same treatment and will get you better in < 10 visits. Which one will you choose. This is a no brainer! Same great outcome, less money spent, and completed in fewer visits!
Pursuit Physical Therapy is exactly the medical practice that takes advantage of this. We pride ourselves in getting patients better in fewer visits at a cheaper rate compared to others. How will the Affordable Care Act and Obamacare affect treatment for my pain and injury?
Can I still receive high quality healthcare?
Yes, if you stay smart about it, but some changes are still coming. Premiums and co-pays will probably continue to increase. I have seen many patients, who already have health insurance,, complain that their health insurance premiums have increased > $100/month and their deductible is $5000 now. What is this?? If you have to pay for the whole treatment anyway, ask yourself, is there a way to receive the same care for a cheaper amount?? Better yet, is there a place that can get me better in fewer visits that 3x a week for 4 weeks? Click here for a previous blog to see the financial differences and how many weeks it will take to get better between standard treatment vs cash based treatment!
Why pay $3000 when your deductible is not met, for standard treatment when you can get the same outcome in fewer visits at Pursuit Physical Therapy for $1500!
Yes millions of uninsured people will now have health insurance, but watch out to make sure that health insurance through the market place will allow you to see your physician of choice, a specialist, and not force you to see to local "doc in a box" clinic.
Here is a great example of a young part time college student who makes roughly $10,000/year and the problems he went through getting health insurance through the market place. Pretty interesting and maybe he may be better of going as a self pay patient for minor non-life threatening injuries. Can you still save money this way??
I recently have heard of a great analogy regarding health care from another PT colleague, Aaron LeBauer:
"people are realizing their health insurance is for catastrophes, more like their car insurance (no coverage for an oil change, flat/punctured tire, or failed water pump) they are starting to shop around to find the best value treatment and therapist."
Where can I find the best care for the best value?

Fee for service physical therapy and concierge medicine in Orlando, FL? Pursuit Physical Therapy is the place for you
Here are 2 common questions we are frequently asked about concierge health care:
What is concierge medicine? (also known as direct care) is a relationship between a patient and a primary clinician in which the patient pays an annual fee, a retainer, or a per session fee. This may or may not be in addition to other charges. In exchange for the retainer, doctors provide One-on-One enhanced patient care. Other terms in use include boutique medicine, cash based medicine, fee for service, retainer-based medicine, and innovative medical practice design, membership medicine, concierge health care, cash-only practice, direct care, direct primary care, and direct practice medicine.
Why is Pursuit Physical Therapy a Cash Based Practice?
"The reason Pursuit Physical Therapy is a cash-based service is because there is no way to treat patients the way that we feel is most affective and accept insurance, without going bankrupt. Insurance companies only reimburse about half what is billed. In order to make a profit, clinics that handle insurance have their patients be seen by assistants and less qualified clinicians. They are also forced to see multiple patients at the same time, so if you would go to an insurance based clinic, you will be double or triple booked with another patient. We spend 60 minutes of one-on-one time with each one of our patients, primarily using manual therapy that has been shown to show superior outcomes and better results than standard care. No physician script is required so we can treat you now, and you do not have to wait weeks to be seen or treated. While you are being treated here, you will not be charged for exercises that you can easily do at home on your own. With our approach, we feel confident that we can get you better in less than half of the number of visits they would need at an insurance based clinic. With the time savings of fewer clinic visits, and the value of feeling better sooner, most patients feel the out-of-pocket expense is more than worth it."
Here are two examples of how much it will cost you for a cash based physical therapy service. This was a earlier Pursuit Physical Therapy Blog post that compared the cost of insuranced-based therapy vs. cash-based therapy. This was a great post by Dr. Jarod Carter how he justifies a cash based physical therapy service those without insurance, those with high deductibles, and those with insurance. Looking for cash based medicine, self pay patient, or concierge services in the Orlando, FL area? Pursuit Physical Therapy is the practice for you!
Cash only clinicians provide high quality, affordable healthcare!
Many healthcare private practice owners are switching to a cash based model now, to ensure their patients still have the opportunity to receive great quality healthcare, with no insurance limitations, and making sure their patients are receiving what is the best treatment for them. Cash only practices are a great option for the uninsured, the insured with a high deductible, or even the insured who want high quality services with better outcomes. Some practices charge a low monthly rate and have an easy accessible direct care whenever their patient needs. This is a great system for those who do not need major medical services, do not get sick often, but really want to get better quicker in fewer visits
Another option is practices that accept all self pay patients without enrolling and being treated per injury either with a per visit rate or signing up for a full program. This is what Pursuit Physical offers: individual visits or specialty treatment packages with unlimited visits. Our goals is to resolve your pain and make sure it never returns in whatever number of visits it takes. A cash based model will allow us to provide this and make sure our patients will get the best outcome. A question that many people ask me is....

Top 10 Reasons to go to Pursuit Physical Therapy! 2. One-on-One Patient Care
2. One-on-One Patient Care
How often do patients
pay—whether it is a copayment, deductible, or both—for only one-on-one physical
therapy with a board certified specialist?
Never. Many people usually rely
on their commercialized, insurance-based coverage, to spend half the actual session taking a
computer survey or being ‘reevaluated’, and the other half of the time waiting
between your repetitions for your ‘individual care’ to resume because your
therapist is scrambling and overbooked, helping two other patient’s finish
their routine all at the same time. Too
often, patients are misled to believe physical therapy through their insurance
is the only solution and inevitably get stuck prolonging their rehabilitation
process by “going with my coverage”. One thing is for sure—you no longer have
to ‘go with the flow’, you can take charge of your recovery today and be on
your way to pain-free living and back to your extracurricular
activities as soon as possible with Pursuit Physical Therapy. Ron Miller, DPT,
OCS, will always customize each session, with One-on-One treatment, tailoring
the routines to individual needs to optimize your quality of care and never
lengthen or prolong any recovery due to insurance-restraints or time
limitations.
Don't settle for paying for poor healthcare and for being double booked with other patients, with sub optimal results! Visit Pursuit Physical Therapy now at www.PursuitTherapy.com!

Where does the healthcare money come from?
A recent post from NPR analyzed how US health care spending comes from. Interesting to see how times have changed! 13.7% still pay out of pocket and don't let their treatment be dictated by insurance company guidelines. This is how Pursuit Physical Therapy can still see one-on-one care and show better outcomes than standard clinics. Visit the Pursuit Physical Therapy website for more information of what we can offer.
